What is the Premium Discount Scheme?

The Premium Discount Scheme is an incentive scheme for employers introduced by WorkCover to improve occupational health and safety and injury management in NSW. Under the Scheme employers are eligible to discounts on their workers compensation premiums over a three year period for implementing occupational health and safety and injury management strategies.

How much can you earn?

The following premium discounts are available to employers:

Year One        up to 15% discount ($75,000 limit)

Year Two       up to 10% discount  ($50,000 limit)

Year Three     up to 5% discount  ($25,000 limit)

However, the actual discount earned by an employer will depend on the Rating offered by the Premium Discount Adviser they engage.

How do employers qualify for a discount?

To be eligible for a discount employers must engage a Premium Discount Adviser approved by WorkCover, to audit their OHS and IM systems.  The Premium Discount Adviser can also assist the employer to improve OHS and IM systems to a point where they are ready to be audited.

What is a Premium Discount Adviser?

A Premium Discount Adviser is an OHS and Injury Management expert approved by WorkCover to assist employers to improve occupational health and safety and injury management in the workplace.

Depending on their level of experience Premium Discount Advisers have been approved by WorkCover to carry a 5%, 10% or 15% rating.  While Advisers on a 5% rating can only offer employers a 5% discount in the first year of the Scheme, Advisers on a 15% can offer employers the full 15% discount in year one.
